Burrows Island WA

Burrows Island, Washington
Harbour Lights #108

Located in Puget Sound, Burrows Island lighthouse was first lit on April 1, 1906. Of wood frame construction, it stands 34 feet in height. Its light is mounted on the top of a house-like structure, which is actually the fog signal building. The keepers were very isolated on their island, and welcomed the lighthouse tender when it arrived every eight months to bring supplies and fuel for the generators. This quaint little light, snuggled into Burrows Island, has served continuously since 1906.

Production Modifications: As one of the 'Original 17' Harbour Lights, approximately the first 250 pieces were cast in Southern California.  Production was then shifted to Castle Studios in Ontario, Canada. During the time of Canadian production, some improvement  of the details was made, especially around the windows.

When first sculpted, the flag read "Burrows Island OR", This was corrected to "Burrows Island WA" after an approximately 550 with the incorrect state abbreviation had been made. Production was shifted to Malaysia and after 2,563 were cast, a decision was made in February, 1993 to discontinue the piece because it was so remote that few knew of the lighthouse.

All Burrows Island sculptures had a lightning rod .

The bottom/box label reads "Burrows Island Washington (C) 1991"  The flag reads "Burrows Island WA (c) 1990."  More information on production modifications for Harbour Lights.
