Since 1868, this famous sentinel has guided ships away from Cape Canaveral's dangerous shoals. In 1894, the 145 tower was dismantled and reassembled further inland. Automated since 1960, the lighthouse has sometimes been mistaken for a rocket ship by launch observers at the Kennedy Space Center.
