Egg Rock ME
Harbour Lights #383

In June 1874, at the request of President Ulysses S. Grant, the United States Congress made an appropriation of $15,000 to construct a light station at Egg Rock at the entrance to Frenchman Bay, Maine, atop a barren ledge. A square, stubby brick tower rises through the center of a wood frame Keeper's dwelling, which was first lit on November 1, 1875. Today a boathouse, oil house and generator house still stand along with the lighthouse. Many tour boats and whale watches leaving Bar Harbor pass Egg Rock Light. 4 1/4" x 8 1/2".
