Cleveland Harbor OH
Harbour Lights #384

Cleveland Harbor West Pierhead Light is a guide to navigation located at the entrance of Ohio's busy Cleveland Harbor and the winding Cuyahoga River. First lit in 1911, the conical cast iron tower and Keeper's quarters was built on a tall concrete and stone foundation. The beam from the original Fourth Order Fresnel lens was visible to sailors for ten miles and shone across the water from 63 feet above Lake Erie. A steam-powered fog horn was added in 1916 that sounded like the mooing of a cow. Referred to as "the cow" by the locals, its warning signal was no laughing matter to mariners as it could penetrate twelve miles of dense fog. 4 3/4" x 7".
