The Regional Event Exclusive for 2009 is Tybee (Knoll) Cut Front Range Georgia It is only available from a select list of Harbour Lights dealers who are supporting the Regional Events. CLICK HERE FOR DEALERS At the mouth of the Savannah River stands the Tybee Island Front Range Light; this light is also known as the Tybee (Knoll) Cut Front Range Light. Built in 1878, with a Sixth Order Fresnel lens, housed in a 28’ tower, the light is located on the western side of the island, overlooking the South Channel. The light was built to replace the lightships that had been on station since 1848. The Tybee Island Front Range Light survived an August 1881 hurricane that destroyed a village on Cockspur Island. There is little information on this "Gone but not Forgotten" Light, it is believed that is in July 1911 the light was repaired, renovated or perhaps even rebuilt, there is no clear record to indicate exactly what was done. Sometime after 1944, the building was destroyed.
